Online casino firm raises £81m through IPO

An online casino firm has raised a record breaking US$158m through an initial public offering (IPO) on the London Stock Exchange’s Alternative Investment Market (AIM).

Gaming VC Holdings, the parent company of www.Casino Club, raised £81m (US$158m) through a share placing with institutional investors.

Die Anteile gingen wohl nur an Großinvestoren. Nach jetzigem Umrechnungskurs wären das etwas 115 Mio. Euro. Vor drei Wochen könnte das wegen dem stärkeren Euro noch etwas mehr gewesen sein.

The money raised easily eclipses the US$100m raised by Costa-Rica based sports book BetonSports, which listed on AIM back in July.

Casino Club is based out of Curacao and is one of Swedish software firm Boss Media’s largest clients despite not catering to the US market.

Wenn man die Zahlen der eingeloggten Spieler vergleicht (soweit anhand der Gästelisten erkennbar), liegt der Casino Club deutlich vor den anderen Boss Media Casinos.

The proceeds from the fundraising will pay for the purchase of CC and its media assets for US$140m, in a takeover orchestrated by four US businessmen.

The group is led by former IBM/Lotus manager Steve Barlow, who will assume the role of chief executive following the acquisition.

It is not the first online casino to achieve a listing on AIM, with Apsinalls Online enjoying a short stay on the market during 2002 before delimiting in 2003.

But it is by far the largest online casino operation to go public and its results will be watched eagerly by several other casino groups believed to be pursuing a listing at the present time.

"We are very pleased with the calibre of Institutions that have invested in our company for this AIM flotation" says Steve Barlow, the company's CEO.
